It was a case of love at first sight for Helen and George when they laid on eyes on each other at Pitmedden dance hall over sixty years ago.
The happy couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last Thursday surrounded by friends at their family home in Lowlands, Potterton.
George and Helen Robertson married on August 15 1953 when they were both aged 22 and haven’t looked back since.
George said: “I’m not saying our marriage hasn’t been without its quarrels.”
Helen, however, had different ideas about the secrets behind their successful marriage. She said: “We like to enjoy a good few whiskies together now and then!”
George spotted Helen in a short skirt at the dance hall and said that he “had to have her”.
Helen said: “When we went out together we used to cycle about three miles to each other’s houses.”
Around 30 British Legion friends from Oldmeldrum dance hall joined the pair for an outdoor party with marquee, as well as their four children, eight grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
Daughter, May added: “They were delighted to receive a card from the Queen as well!”
