Fire crews have dealt with a fire in a flat at Pitcaple Castle.
The blaze broke out late on Tuesday afternoon and units - including a height vehicle and a water carrier - attended from Inverurie, Insch and Kintore.
The outbreak was in a two-storey flat adjoining the castle, which is near the main A96 Aberdeen-Inverness road.
The fire was brought under control by 6.30pm and the last appliance left the scene at around 8pm.
No one was in the property at the time but a cat which was inside died.
Incident Commander station manager Bruce Milne said: “The crews did an excellent job. This was a very challenging incident due to the presence of a well-developed fire and heavy smoke logging.
“There is no doubt the actions of the crews saved the building. The property did have working smoke detection and this incident highlights the importance of having smoke detectors fitted and working properly in your property.”
