An Ellon craft baker has won leading prizes at the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards.
The Ythan Bakery took national special award and the Highlands and Islands and Grampian regional gold certificate for its buttery.
Mike Gillan, from the Ythan Bakery, said: “We are extremely pleased to have been recognised as one of the best bakers in Scotland.
“We put all our energies into making consistently good quality products and this has been recognised by the judges. But we could not have come this far in the competition without our team and the customers who voted for us.”
Scottish Bakers, who devised the awards, asked customers across Scotland to vote for their favourite bakery items in the following categories - morning roll, scone, small cake, savoury and bread scoring each on appearance, freshness, taste and value for money.
The top 30 products in each category were baked and delivered for judging by a panel of independent experts led by Robert Ross. The judges had a day to assess 150 of the best baked items in the country in order to decide the regional and national winners.
The awards were presented by Mich Turner, owner of award-winning Little Venice Cake Company and judge on ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery.
