A POLICE investigation is continuing after the body of an elderly man was found on an Aberdeenshire beach
The discovery was made on the shoreline by a man walking in the Blackdog area, near Balmedie, on Thursday of last week.
A section of the beach was cordoned off by police for several hours following the grim find at 11.15 am.
Police confirmed that the body was that of an elderly man and at this stage there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
A spokesman said that from experience it did not appear that the body had been in the sea for any length of time.
He added that a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal in Aberdeen in due course.
When police arrived at the scene to begin their investigation, after being alerted about the discovery, the body had been washed out to sea, but was recovered from the shoreline later.
Aberdeen lifeboat and a coastguard team assisted in the operation.
The area where the body was recovered is surrounded by high sand dunes and is about half a mile from Blackdog.
