THE festive season got under way in Pitmedden in spectacular style with the switching on of the Christmas Lights on Sunday.
Scores of people turned out in chilly conditions for a host of exciting activities in the Haddo Medical Practice car park.
The event is supported by Udny Community Council, Udny Community Trust, Pitmedden Christmas Lights Trust, Pitmedden Playgroup and Pitmedden Mother, Babies and Toddlers Group.
Local people were entertained by a fireworks display, facepainting, live music and a BBQ. There was also a visit by Santa who handed out presents in his grotto.
The lights were switched on to huge cheers by Udny Green pupil Isla Overton and Erin Grieve from Pitmedden School.
A dazzling fireworks display followed leaving visitors gasping in awe.
Brian McDougall, chairman of Udny Community Trust, said: “It is a big event in the village and everyone enjoyed themselves on such a cold day.
“We think around 250 people turned up which is great turn out considering the weather conditions.
“There were plenty of activities for people.”
Mr McDougall added that around £800 was raised from the event. which will benefit the playgroup and mothers and toddlers group.
The live entertainment during the afternoon included appearances by local folk groups.
