Benchmark in Ellon received some new tools thanks to a generous donation from Foveran Church Corner Cafe.

The Cafe donated a total of £500 which the Benchmark used to purchase the tools.

Benchmark produces quality garden durniture, kindling for sale to the general public and provides opportunities for people with learning disabilities to learn new skills and experience a real work setting.

Each service user has an individually tailored training programme which in addition to developing woodwork skills helps each person to learn work ethics, get used to being part of a team an relating to visiting members of the public.

Benchmark comes under the umbrella of Ellon Resource Centre but operates independently from it and is supported by Aberdeenshire Council.

They also offer work experience for school pupils and work alongside the Employability Service giving a wide range of people the opportunity to have a workplace experience.

The project runs from a unit in Castlepark Industrial Estate in Ellon from Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

Corner Cafe is open on Thursday mornings from 10am until noon in the Church Hall, Newburgh, and all ages are welcome to a time of friendship.

There is no charge for the refreshments available but a donation may be made to the cafe.

Each year a portion of these donations is given to a charity or worthy cause by the supporters of the cafe and this year Benchmark won the vote.
