ELLON hosted three highly unusual visitors on Monday morning, after the town’s collective School Nativity got underway beside the Ythan.

Three camels, hired specially for the event made their way down Bridge Street, followed by pupils from the town’s primary schools, who had undertaken fundraising to bring the exotic animals to Ellon for the day.

Organiser Morag McGowan, who is headmistress of Auchterellon Primary School, told the Times that she had been very impressed by the turnout.

“The day went really well,” she said. “The feedback has been hugely positive, and we’ve had a lot of people getting in touch to say so! The cost of the event worked out at about £1 a head for the children, which really isn’t much, and it was a very worthwhile event. We’ve had lots of positive comment from the town’s traders. One or two folk have said to me ‘it brought a wee bit of magic to the streets of Ellon’, so I’m just thrilled.”
