PUPILS at Ellon Academy got into World Book Day with author Barry Hutchison, at an interactive book signing event at the school’s library and Old Assembly Hall on Thursday.
Author Barry, whose previous works include the Invisible Fiends horror series, launched his book ‘The 13th Horseman’ at the event, with a question and answer session for budding young readers and authors.
Speaking to the Times, he said that he intended to make the launch a fun, interactive even.
“I hope that the youngsters have a laugh and a good time - book launches can often be quite dull, so I aim to engage my audience with questions and answers,” he said. “The aim is to encourage young people to read for pleasure, and to show them that whatever their interest, there’s something for them.”
Barry’s book - set in an alternate theological universe where all the world’s Gods come to life - said that he hoped youngsters would take an interest in reading from the event. The author - whose niece Lauren Kyle stays at Hatton and is in S4 at Ellon - was also scheduled to visit Oldmeldrum and Turriff Academies.
Vice-chair of the Education committee Cllr Isobel Davidson, said: “I am delighted that such a local author will again be helping us spread the message to our youngsters that reading is fun!”
