PUPILS from Ellon Academy’s S1 demonstrated enthusiasm and generosity last Friday, with their annual ‘Wear Red Day’ and McDonald Park cross-country race.
A mixed group of 180 pupils - boys and girls - gathered at the McDonald Memorial to take part in the race, which includes a run around the outside perimeter of the park with prizes for the winners, and those with the best costumes.
The race takes place in aid of the British Heart Foundation, with pupils donating a pound each to wear red clothes and compete in the race, which serves to emphasise the importance of cardiovascular fitness in early years.
PE Teachers Sheena Grey, Ailsa Kennedy and Jo Russell who oversaw the event praised the efforts of their pupils.
“We’ve had some especially good efforts this year, both in terms of participation and some of the costumes pupils have worn,” said Ailsa Kennedy. “They’ve all done really well.”
Overall winner of the race was aspiring young Ellon athlete, Matthew Keenan.
