Ellon is counting down to the big switch on of the town’s Christmas lights.
The Community Council has put together an exciting programme of entertainment for Saturday’s event.
For two local pupils it will be a special day.
Auchterellon Primary School pupils, Callum Turnbull and Mhari Cruickshanks will press the button to light the tree at the Chestnuts, signalling for each business with a light to switch it on.
The P7 Prince and Princess said that they are very excited about the event.
Callum said: “Our friends think we are really lucky.”
Mhari’s teacher, Mrs Will said: “Mhari was really chuffed when she found out she had been picked.”
The community council organise the event and are appealing to local businesses to make a contribution to help finance the event. With a target of £5000 to stage the event next year, the council would appreciate any donations offered.
Mark Grant, council treasurer, said that preparations are going well.
Mark told the times: “There has been an awful lot more work involved this year, but everything is coming together.
“The lights have been completely refurbished and retested due to legislation.
“It’s a lot of work and expense, but we have been able to do it because the people have been so generous.
“Businesses have been great with many of them going above and beyond the call of duty.”
The festivities begin at 10am on Neil Ross Square where Santa’s grotto will open. Buchan Community Radio will be live on air, with local bands including The Ythan Fiddlers and the Ythan Singers performing from 1pm.
At around 4.15pm the parade will start from the Old Academy before Callum and Mhari switch on the lights at 4.30pm at the top of Bridge Street.
The event ends in spectacular style with a firework display at 5pm.
