Ellon Hillwalking Club’s August outing is on Sunday 19 to the Lairig Ghru. This walk, through what is probably the best known pass in Scotland, goes through the very heart of the Cairngorms and a rich variety of mountain and woodland scenery.
The walk is 28 km long with a total ascent of about 800m. It is likely to take between eight and 10 hours. It will start at the Linn of Dee and finish at Whitewell.
It is a demanding walk so anyone taking part needs to be prepared for a long day out.
A minibus will leave the car park at Ellon Academy at 7am drop walkers at Linn of Dee and then be driven around to pick everyone up at Whitewell. It is important that anyone wanting to take part in this walk gets in touch with Gordon Spence (01358 788998) as soon as possible to ensure that there are spaces on the bus.
