Ellon men’s tash fundraising effort

TWO men from Ellon And District 41 Club have committed themselves to embracing ‘Movember.’

Barrie Seddon and Cliff Buchan are both donning hairy top lips for the yearly event, which sees men grow their moustaches in aid of Prostate Cancer research over the course of November.

Prostate cancer remains one of the biggest killers of older men, and frequently goes undiagnosed, though the chances of survival following an early diagnosis are good. Movember aims to not only raise awareness of the cancer, but to raise funds for research into its causes and treatments.

The pair have already raised more than £3,000 worth of sponsorship for their efforts this month, and are seeking further cash for what is a very good cause.

Barrie said: “A few years ago I let my hair and beard grow very long and had the lot shaved off at the Ellon Gala to raise money for The Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS). On that occasion I raised £1,500 and if we can do as well this time we will be very happy”.

Cliff added: “We did not actually choose the fundraiser. The National President of 41 Clubs chose to participate in Movember and asked all 41 Clubs to join him. I thought it was a good idea and asked for someone to join me and of course it had to be Barrie who volunteered! When we were in Ellon & District Round Table we were both part of the Casino team that raised thousands of pounds for local charities.”
