AN Ellon councillor who condemned the state of Ellon cemetery last week has thanked council workers, after swift action was taken to tidy the burial ground.
Cllr Gillian Owen called for remedial action to be taken after discovering that paths in the cemetery had become overgrown - however, following a weekend visit, she confirmed that the council had tidied up the areas in question, and that the cemetery was once again in good condition.
Cllr Owen said, “I visited the cemetery on Sunday and was delighted to see that the spoils storage area had been totally cleared up -you would not recognise it now.”
A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said: “Council staff were upset when they realised that the spoils store in Ellon cemetery had overflowed onto an adjacent grave. It is not known how this happened but the local landscape team remedied the situation as soon as it was brought to their attention and there are plans to alter the store to ensure this cannot happen again.”
