PLANS for a new cafe and craft shop at The Square, Ellon, have been deferred for a site visit after councillors expressed concern at the scale of the development,

Proposals submitted on behalf of Mr and Mrs Stander of New Leeds included proposals that the existing building at 35 The Square be turned into a craft shop and café, with capacity for 47 customers. Dormers at the back of the building would be extended, while additions would be made to the front.

Councillor Rob Merson told the committee that he was concerned by the scale of the plans.

“Looking at the plans, it’s a tiny house, to be turned into a 47 seat café. It’s certainly extremely ambitious.”

Local members agreed to delay a decision until after a site visit.
