AN Ellon councillor has called for an investigation, after complaints from a local resident prompted the closure of a badly kept path in the town.
The path, which connects Bredero Drive and Auchmore Road, was closed off after Cllr Gillian Owen raised concerns with Aberdeenshire Council about maintenance. It has subsequently emerged that the council has no record of ever having taken ownership of the path in question, leading to questions over its maintenance.
Cllr Owen told the Times: “I have been in touch with Officers about the situation, and the problem seems to be that there is no record of the path ever having been adopted by this or the previous Gordon District Council.
“Officers will be writing to local residents regarding this matter and asking for their help in trying to establish the facts for instance, is there any information recorded in their property deeds? I apologise to local people that we have had to take this action, but having viewed the path myself it is clearly dangerous.
“This is the second case brought to my attention in a matter of weeks. The other is in Swan Road in Meiklemill. These paths have both been in existence for over 35 years and I am concerned that this may highlight a serious issue, I have asked officers to look into these cases and report back.”
