An Aberdeenshire family support group is seeking more volunteers.
Home-Start Garioch is a voluntary organisation which provides support to families with at least one child under the age of five.
It has been operating in the Garioch and Formartine area for 20 years. The group will be holding a recruiting session in Ellon next week.
Support is offered by a home-visiting volunteer who goes into the family home to provide one-to-one support. All families have individual specific needs and all volunteers have unique individual qualities which can make such a huge difference to the family they are supporting.
Home-Start Garioch’s first volunteer training course started at the end of September last year and was completed at the beginning of December.
Senior co-ordinator Mhairi Philip said; “Recently we recruited a group of volunteers in Ellon who completed their training in December.
“All volunteers have been matched to a family and support is going well.
“This is really positive for us. The difficulty lies that we are still receiving referrals for families in need and we don’t have volunteers to be matched to them so I need to recruit more.”
Home-Start Garioch will be holding a coffee and information session at the Kirk Centre in Ellon on Tuesday, January 27, from 10-11.30pm and from 1.30-3pm.
Mhairi added: “All our volunteers have parenting experience and a spare few hours a week with the willingness to provide some emotional and practical support to a family looking for some help.
“Come along and meet the team, staff and volunteers and find out what the volunteer opportunity has to offer and how you can fit into it.”
