YTHANVALE residents continued their programme of holiday activities at home last week, when they met animal sanctuary owner Ruth Hickling and her owls.

Ms Hickling, of the Owl and Pussycat Centre, visited the home to introduce residents to a number of the birds, including Hedwig, who appeared in the Harry Potter movies. Residents were able to pet the creatures, which are hand reared from birth.

The visit comes as the culmination of a week of events which saw residents offered a selection of activities, including animal displays, music sessions and topical talks.

Spokeswoman and Ythanvale worker Kimberly Birnie thanked the Friends of Ythanvale for their support which allowed the programme to take place, as well as individuals and organisations including the Rotary Club of Ellon who had helped to facilitate the events.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to the Friends for their support, as well as to the staff who have worked hard to make the week possible,” she said. “And also to Anne Milne, for her enthusiasm and hard work - without it, none of this would be possible.”
