Firewalk funds for Sue Ryder
An MSP has taken part in a firewalk to raise funds for an extension to a new rehabilitation centre.
Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin was joined by her parliamentary staff member Duncan Gill as they walked over hot wood embers to raise money for Sue Ryder.
They were joined by a host of other charity fundraisers for the event earlier this month.
Ms Martin signed up after visiting with Sue Ryder to see the work they do to support people with a range of needs.
All the volunteers were joined by expert instructors who have been fire walking for 18 years.
Money raised will go towards supporting the creation of newly adapted rooms and apartments at Dee View Court, which provides 24-hour specialist care for people who have life changing conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease and Huntington’s Disease.
Gillian Martin MSP told the Ellon Times: “I’ve seen firsthand the incredible care provided by Dee View Court to those who have life-changing conditions including a few of my constituents who now live there.
“It was an incredible experience taking part in the event. As an MSP you get many opportunities to do different things and this was one of the best.
“I would encourage anyone who has thought about it to sign up and volunteer to do it next time. It’s an incredible experience.”
