Fencing contractors have arrived at Foveran to extend the safety barrier on the northbound section of the new Balmedie-Tipperty dual carriageway.

Ellon & District councillor, Richard Thomson, last week voiced his concern that the existing barrier wasn’t long enough.

Commenting, cllr Thomson said: “This is a very welcome development indeed. Only last week, I made a call for the safety barrier at Foveran to be lengthened and backed that call up with a video in order to show just how dangerous the current arrangement was.

“Although I’ve yet to receive any formal response from the AWPR team, fencing contractors have been in place since Monday, June 25 at the site I highlighted, engaged in work to extend the safety barrier.

“Obviously I’m delighted that the community’s call for action at this spot has been heeded so quickly.

“The dangers were self-evident and while it’s not yet clear just how much the barrier is being extended by, I would expect the finished work to be able to prevent any vehicles leaving the new road and crashing down onto the old road.

“As we look forward to the full opening of the first section of the AWPR opening this week, this is a further piece of good news for local residents.”
