It may be an unusual way to mark forthcoming “landmark” birthdays, but Gemma Simpson and Darren Ross have decided to embark on a number of charity challenges.

On Tuesday, (July 22), Darren and Gemma, supported and assisted by 15 other members of Garioch Kettlebells (GKB) took a combined total of 354kg of kettlebells to the Mither Tap in aid of The Brain and Spine Foundation, Charlie’s House and CLAN raising in excess of £200 on the night.

Gemma said, “This year I’ve decided to do 30 challenges for my 30th birthday in August raising money for CLAN and Charlie House. Some of the challenges I have completed to date are; three 10ks (Baker Hughes, Balmoral and Lumphanan), three 1/2 marathons, (Inverness, Garioch and Stonehaven), a fire walk, the Mithertap Hill Race, Tough Mudder, the Highland Cross which is a 20-mile run 30-mile cycle from Kintail to Beauly.

“ I’ve still nine challenges to get through which include Banchory Beast, two 1/2 marathons, a triathlon and Coast to Coast taking into account running, cycling and kayaking from Nairn to Glencoe in September.”
