Golden Girl!

Inverurie’s very own swimming star Hannah Miley finished her Commonwealth Games adventure on Tuesday night by setting a new Scottish record in the 200m breaststroke.

Hannah capped a brilliant performance at Tollcross International Swimming Centre clocking 4:06.21 finishing fourth and narrowly missing out on her third medal of the games.

The Garioch Amateur Swimming Club member kicked off Scotland’s campaign in the pool by winning the first gold medal in the 400m Individual Medley last Thursday (July 24).

There were emotional scenes immediately after the race as Hannah celebrated with her family.

After the medal ceremony Hannah Said, “I have dreamt about this moment, but I didn’t expect to cry on the podium. It was like playing out a film in my mind; seeing all the sacrifices my family and I have made to get to this moment. I wear my heart on my sleeve and that swim was for my dad, my family and it was for me.”

Hannah added a bronze medal in the 200m Individual Medley on Sunday (July 27), and completed an amazing 13 races during the course of the competition, reaching seven finals.

Hannah contributed to a fantastic performance by Scotland’s swimmers who finished the swimming events with 10 medals in the pool, contributing to the country’s record breaking medal haul so far at the games.
