The chairman of the Ellon Talking Newspaper has stepped down.

Patrick Edward attended his last meeting at Ellon Library on Thursday, October 25.

Group members presented Patrick with a gift and thanked him for all of his help over the years.

Patrick said it had been a “great pleasure” to be part of the group, he has “very happy memories” and added that he would miss it.

Patrick had been a member of the Talking Newspaper since it was started up in 1998 by former Ellon Times reporter Sarah Robertson.

He has been the group’s chairman for the last seven years.

Ellon Talking Newspaper group member, Elizabeth Cameron, said: “ Patrick has been an excellent help. He will be a huge miss, he is very calm and takes the work in his stride.”

The Ellon Talking Newspaper is made up of volunteers who meet at Ellon Library every Thursday evening to produce a recording of news, mostly from the Ellon Times.

The recordings are distributed on USB sticks to visually impared recipients free of charge.

The special postal wallet has a reversible address label for sending back to the Library.

The Talking Newspaper team supplies an easily operated sound box into which the stick is inserted.
