Public meeting over Tarves surgery

A PUBLIC meeting will be held in Tarves next week over the looming closure of the local GP surgery.

NHS Grampian is arranging the meeting to update patients on plans to shut the premises in the village square next month.

The closure proposals follow a battle over local dispensing services two years ago.

A petition was organised when Gourock-based TLC Pharmacy announced a move to open a private pharmacy in Tarves.

The private scheme was challenged by NHS Grampian but later allowed to go ahead on appeal. Haddo Medical Practice was told it would have to stop dispensing.

Udny Community Council Secretary Brian McDougall said Monday’s meeting is likely to be well attended as most local people are against what was happening. He added that the decision could affect 5,000 patients.

NHS Grampian said Haddo Medical Group and Aberdeenshire Community Helth Partnership are aware of the anxiety the decision has caused locally, but are keen to emphasise that patients living in Tarves will continue to receive a full service from the practice.

The meeting will be held in the village’s Melvin Hall at 7pm.
