Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin was delighted to welcome two special guests to the State opening of Parliament at Holyrood recently.
She invited Anna and Johnny Cordiner from Oldmeldrum to Edinburgh.
Mr and Mrs Cordiner run the charity Kayleigh’s Wee Stars.
Sadly the couple lost their 2-year-old daughter Kayleigh in 2012 to a rare and incurable form of cancer – childhood atypical teratoid / rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT).
Following her death they set up the charity in her name which raises money for families with a terminally ill child.
Since then the charity has donated £337,484 to 131 families across Scotland to help relieve financial pressures and help families make wonderful memories in the last months of their child’s lives.
Ms Martin said: “It was an honour to welcome both Anna and Johnny to Holyrood as Aberdeenshire East’s Local Heroes.
“The compassion and generosity of spirit of Anna and Johnny serves as an example to us all.
“Fundraising activities established by Anna and Johnny have united their community to aid a worthy cause.”
