Hotel owners fined after child’s fall

The owners of an Aberdeenshire hotel have been fined £10,000 after a toddler fell from a window.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard the 15-month-old girl fell from the first floor of converted stables at Oldmeldrum’s Meldrum House Hotel.

The youngster escaped serious injury after falling around nine feet onto paving.

Meldrum House Estates had previously admitted breaking health and safety laws in April, 2012.

They pled guilty to failing to have the appropriate safety measures in place to prevent the girl falling.

Immediately after the incident the company had the windows fixed shut and have since introduced new risk assessments.
