IEI floral displays to brighten up Inverurie

Inverurie Town Centre in summer time
Inverurie Town Centre in summer time

The Inverurie Environmental Improvement Group is working hard to bring colour to the streets of Inverurie town centre.

The groups’ volunteers have been checking over and repairing all the 170 hanging baskets and troughs. These will be filled with compost and plants to give a full summer of colour from the middle of June. This year there will be some new locations for the hanging baskets with some new sponsors joining in the scheme. Local shops and businesses can sponsor a hanging basket to be planted, put up and maintained by the Inverurie Environmental Improvement group. If the sponsors shop front is not suitable for a basket then they can sponsor one on a lamppost nearby. Each business that sponsors a basket will be given a window sticker to show their support. Aberdeenshire Council kindly provide the majority of the plants free of charge.

The group say that they will aim to water the baskets two or three times a week to keep them in tip top condition. They are very grateful to the volunteers who take on this task every summer and would be delighted to hear from any other interested persons who could spare a couple of hours to help with the watering of the hanging baskets around the town centre. The volunteers have a rota to spread the workload, the more volunteers the fewer times each person has to water.

The Inverurie Environment Group will be running a garden competition again this year, and entry forms will be available from the end of May at Inverurie Library, Inverurie Garden Centre, GPH and Watsons.
