North East MSP Mark McDonald has urged Aberdeenshire Council to stand by its decision to remove the gravestone of murder victim Claire Morris.
The gravestone in Tarves, which carries a reference to a ‘dear wife’, was removed by Aberdeenshire Council following the conviction of her husband, Malcolm Webster, of her murder. Mr Webster is applying for legal aid to challenge the council’s move.
“This news will obviously be of great concern to the Morris family”, said Mr McDonald.
“I welcomed Aberdeenshire Council’s decision when it was first announced in August, and I would urge officials to stand by their original decision, which was clearly taken in the best interests of the Morris family.
“I continue to hope that the Morris family will, in time, be able to create an appropriate and lasting memorial to Claire.”
