North East Scotland Liberal Democrat regional MSP Alison McInnes completed a relocation of her parliamentary office from Inverurie last week, with the opening of a new base in Ellon.

Mrs McInnes, who is also the Liberal Democrats’ Scottish justice and health spokesperson, quit her long-term base in Inverurie’s High Street which she had shared with Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce since her election to Holyrood in 2007, in order to find more spacious and accessible accommodation for staff and visiting constituents. Mr Bruce and his staff will continue to occupy their existing premises.

Mrs McInnes’ new Parliamentary Office is located within the Ellon Business Centre on the town’s Broomiesburn Road. Owned by the Enterprise North East Trust, the centre houses several businesses within its suite of nine offices and seven workshops.

Mrs McInnes, who lives in Ellon, said that she was “delighted to be able to have a modern, accessible office open for all my constituents.”

“I have two staff based in Ellon Business Centre”, she continued. “They will be happy to help residents from across the North East with their issues.

“As well as handling casework, they will assist with surgeries. However, given the size of the seat – it stretches from Dundee to Buckie – I will also be travelling to be available for constituents in other areas.

“The office is well placed, being on the road into Ellon from the main A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead route. It will allow me to fully serve the half a million people in the North East,” she said.

“I aim to use the office as much as I can, when I am not out and about in the constituency, taking part in debates in the chamber, or attending to parliamentary business.”

Cllr Ian Mollison, who will be sharing the office with Mrs McInnes, said that the new bright, airy room was a big improvement on the High Street office in Inverurie.

“We haven’t got everything tidied away yet,” he said. “When we do, though, it will be comfortably big enough for us to work in. It’s also quite a bit closer to home for Alison - she now plans to do most of her commuting by bus and train, which is very green!”

The new office is open from 9am to 5pm on workdays. Mrs McInnes and her staff can be contacted at the office, either on 01358 729962 or by email on
