Methlick wedding venue plans unveiled
The wraps have come off plans for the creation of a new wedding and hospitality venue near Methlick.
Schivas Estate Ltd is seeking planning permission to redevelop an existing two-storey steading building which has lain redundant since 2007.
Agents Aurora Planning say the proposed redevelopment of Newton Steading would create a “custom venue for weddings and private events” within the existing building, complementing the proposed partial change of use of House of Schivas by providing a “wider portfolio of choice”.
The firm states that the plans respect the building’s existing configuration and makes the most of vernacular features, while sensitively refurbishing and extending this in a way that displays the best of old and new.
It is expected that the maximum number of guests for weddings would be 150 for dinning and up to 200 standing, with the wedding party likely to stay at accommodation within the estate, including Newton Farmhouse, the availability of on-site accommodation being one of the key selling points of its offering.
The agents state: “It is envisioned that the converted steading could also host corporate and charitable functions, such as conferences, workshops, networking events, dinners and ceilidhs – including potentially for cruise operators – with maximum guest numbers again being 150 seated and up to 200 standing, although such events are likely to involve much smaller numbers of people.”
They also say that as well as the applicant’s own staff, the proposed development would “directly support” a number of local businesses, including caterers, photographers, shops, florists, salons, make-up artists, a variety of hire businesses including kilts, taxis, hotels and local restaurants, “creating further employment and economic benefit for the area”.
