Ellon residents are enjoying a trip down memory lane thanks to the reintroduction of fresh milk deliveries on the town’s doorsteps.

Local woman Amy Johnston initially brought up the idea on the Ellon Mums Facebook group and it quickly took off with others showing their support.

Resident Lynne Holburn told the Times: “I picked up the doorstep delivery scheme on Facebook a few weeks ago and sent my details to Muller.

“At the time there must have been over a hundred or so folks leaving their names saying they would be keen to have doorstep delivery.

“The milk is being delivered in glass bottles so we’re also doing our bit to reduce plastic, which is very much in focus at the moment.”

She added: “I think it’s marvellous, especially if they manage to expand it to commercial deliveries to shops and restaurants in the town, again to do their bit to reduce plastic.”

A spokesperson for Muller said: “The service is being offered by a self-employed milkman in the area, Willie Milne.

“Some deliveries of glass bottles will start on Monday, October 15, and some on Monday, October 22. These will take place on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“For further details, and if people want to sign up, they can contact Willie direct on 07702 713985.”

Ellon and District councillor Isobel Davidson commented: “It’s great news that a local woman has successfully campaigned to get a doorstop glass bottle milk and fruit juice delivery for Ellon.

“The interest in this shown on social media is huge and demonstrates a commitment that many people have to reducing their environmental footprint. I look forward to hearing more about it as deliveries get underway over the next week or two.”
