The ordination of Rev William Butchart and his subsequent induction as minister into Ellon Baptist Church took place last weekend at the town’s Victoria Hall.

The hall was packed with a congregation from his new church, Mr Butchart’s family and friends, a busload from his last church - the Leslie Baptist, as well as representatives from churches from in and around Ellon.

Previous minister Rev Jim Clarke shared some of his own experiences and acting secretary, Dr Peter Brown, discussed the work involved within the Search Committee in looking for a new minister.

Rev Butchart’s life as a Christian started 10 years ago when he joined Leslie Baptist Church. He completed nursing training in 2009, continuing to work as a nurse, but afterwards, he felt a call to the ministry and started testing and training. Ellon Baptist Church contacted him during his fourth year at the Scottish Baptist College,

Rev Butchart said: “We have been touched by the warmth and welcome of all in the church as we get to know the people. The many young families here and the family focus of the church is great for us too having a young family. We all look forward to getting to know people in the church and in Ellon as we settle in.”
