New services for care home
An Ellon care home is preparing to embark on a new scheme of palliative, rehab and respite care.
From the end of June, the Schivas Wing of Ythanvale Care Home will start offering palliative, rehab and enablement and short-term intermediate and respite care for up to eight adults aged 18 and over who are registered with the Ellon or Haddo GP practices.
Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership will be providing the services following the end of a partnership with Meallmore Care Homes which delivered GP acute, palliative and rehab and enablement care within the town’s Auchmacoy GP Unit.
In a report to the Integrated Joint Board, AHSCP chief officer Adam Coldwells said: “Work is ongoing within the Health and Social Care Partnership alongside the Care Inspectorate to ensure we can deliver high quality, flexible, holistic and patient-focused services within our community.
“Care and treatment will be designed around the needs of the individual and in order to prevent delays in accessing or moving on from the provision of care, all associated health and social care systems will be utilised efficiently.”
Training and development opportunities are currently being offered to the staff team within Ythanvale and a recruitment process is in place to enhance the existing staff team to ensure it has a core team of nursing and care staff to deliver this service.
Mr Caldwell says current residents and their families have been made aware of the change to the service and further meetings will follow to ensure both residents and staff are supported through this transition.
