The last Formartine Area Committee agreed the 2019/20 Bridge works programme which will include design work for the Waterside Bridge in Newburgh and the footbridge at Meiklemill.
Ellon & District councillor Gillian Owen said: “I have been monitoring the status of the Meiklemill bridge for a number of years, particularly after the dramatic floods of January 2016.
"In 2017/18 it reached the Reserve list but alas this came to nothing as no additional monies became available. The financial year 18/19 came and went without any works, but this year £40,000 has now been allocated for the design.”
Cllr Owen continued: “In 2017/18 saw some scour repairs carried out but nothing since. The bridge is well over 30 years and a much-used access to the town.
"Once the design has been carried out a replacement, all being well, should be installed in the summer of 2020. Hopefully the timing of the installation will coincide with the School Holidays to reduce disruption.”
She added: “In the same programme the Waterside Bridge near Newburgh, is again scheduled for design works this year, with bridge refurbishment being carried out in 2020 and 2021.
"I’m delighted that this much needed works in the Ellon & District Ward features so prominently.”
