An Ellon man has been honoured with two very special awards for his work with the Ellon and District Pipe Band.
Andrew Robertson, also known as Drew, was recognised in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours list and will receive a British Empire Medal (BEM) later this year.
The 67-year-old was also named the Best of Formartine at the recent Inspiring Aberdeenshire awards for dedicating over 40 years of his life to the Ellon and District Pipe Band.
The Inspiring Aberdeenshire awards ceremony organised by Aberdeenshire Council took place at Haddo House on Friday, June 17 to celebrate the work of people in the area who support their communities.
Speaking to the Times Drew said: “It is all a bit of a rollercoaster.
“I am really quite humbled and both the BEM and award were unexpected but I must have been doing something right!”
Although Drew retired as Pipe Major when he was 61, he still keeps in touch with the band and attends events they play at.
He now spends his time teaching young learners how to play.
Drew added: “I’d like to thank everyone who nominated me for their very kind thoughts.”
