Members of a local theatre school are busy rehearsing for their upcoming performance at Ellon’s Victoria Hall this weekend.

Class * Act Drama will bring their show ‘Annie’ to Ellon on Saturday, May 11.

This month marks the group’s ninth anniversary, and for the past two years it has been running classes at Ellon Academy Community Campus on Wednesday evenings.

Class * Act Drama will perform ‘Annie’ at the Victoria Hall on Saturday, May 11 at 2pm and 7pm.

The show will feature a cast of 32 local pupils from P6 to S1.

Group teacher Julie O’Connell said: “We are incredibly proud of them all and can’t wait to show people what they can do.

“Our Drama School is different to most in that we do not audition pupils to get in.

“We are inclusive and open to all, no matter what ability, need or background.

“Our focus is on self expression and creativity, whilst boosting confidence, self esteem, a positive self image and positive mental health.

“Some of our pupils have anxiety and additional support needs and Class * Act gives them and all pupils, the opportunity to shine, to be themselves and to be part of something where they are valued and supported.

“Many of our pupils are incredibly shy and doing something like this is massively out of their comfort zone, however, with support and belief, what they have achieved is absolutely amazing.”

Julie added: “Our shows are non-profit making and we are also raising funds for our chosen charities The Brain Tumour Charity and JDRF (Juvenille Diabetic Research Foundation) – two charities chosen because they are close to our heart and both charities have helped two of our Class * Act families directly in the past year. Because of this, we would like to give something back.”

Tickets for the show are priced at £10 for adults and £8 for concessions (over 60s and under 16s) and are available by emailing joconnell_drama@yahoo.co.uk or by calling 07725 038755.
