An Ellon writing group which meets weekly is looking to increase its membership and would welcome new budding scribes.

The Ythan Writers, formed two years ago, meet in Ellon Library every Wednesday when they mull over the art of writing, giving themselves a target every week when they take a subject and write about it for the following meeting.

The founder members Robin Hastings, Ted Munyard and Jack Orr welcomed all comers who have a keen interest in putting pen to paper, as does relatively new member Colin Grant, who said on behalf of his fellow writers: “Most of all it is a good fun group who just love the written word. Enjoying ourselves is the first priority. If we get something published that’s a bonus.”

The group recently had local author Alan Barker along to discuss how he managed to break into the industry with his well-researched novels on the two world wars, impressing the small group with his enthusiasm and application.

Mr Grant added: “It is clearly difficult to get into print, but Alan’s perseverance, not to mention talent shone through in his half hour presentation to the Ythan Writers. He is a great example of what can be achieved.”

Aspiring writers simply have to turn up at Ellon Library at 1.30 on a Wednesday.
