Haddo Snow Ball is experiencing a resurgence.

The long-standing winter event had been hit by a drop in numbers, particularly with the downturn in the oil industry in the North-east.

But a few stalwarts got together last summer to plan a revival and it paid off with a large turn-out at the recent ball held in Haddo’s Canadian Hall.

Organising team chair Forbes Hamilton told the Times: “The emphasis has always been on good music, good food and good fun.

“In recent years numbers have declined somewhat, particularly with the downturn in the oil industry, and the ball was struggling to break even. So it was decided that new blood and new ideas might stimulate interest.

“A website seemed the obvious answer and after much trial and error this was eventually achieved. But once live it proved a great success.”

He added: “Some old friends came back to support us and some new friends came along to try it out - and have promised to come back.

“Our efforts were rewarded with an excellent turnout on the night and judging by the noise level and enthusiasm with which everyone congregated on the dance floor, everyone had come to have a good time.”

The final sum raised has still to be calculated but organisers are confident of a “reasonable profit”.

The bulk of the proceeds will go to Haddo House Choral and Operatic Society.

It is also hoped to make a donation to the Rotary Club of Ellon.

A preliminary date of January 6 has been arranged for next year’s snow ball.
