Incident after residents express safety concerns

A Meikle Wartle resident’s concerns for safety have been highlighted after a lorry became stuck on the village’s single track road.

Last week Gary Newell raised his concerns for safety following an increased number of cars travelling through the village due to the closure of a section of the B9001 just past the Drum of Wartle Petrol Station.

Many motorists used Meikle Wartle as a short-cut, including many HGV’s despite signs stating the road was not suitable for large vehicles.

Gary said: “The police would do well to add a presence in Meikle Wartle with fines handed out to HGV drivers ignoring the signs stating the road is unsuitable.

“The whole situation is incredibly dangerous.”

Aberdeenshire Council erected more signs to warn HGV drivers to use the official diversion route however, a Meikle Wartle resident found a lorry had become stuck as it tried to travel through the village last week.

The B9001 was due to open tomorrow (Friday) however it opened ahead of schedule earlier this week.
