The Ythan Singers were delighted to welcome their new Musical Director at their recent AGM.

Kathleen Cronie, who is originally from Dingwall, has taken over the post from Morag Paton who recently left after 28 years.

Kathleen studied for an MA in French and Gaelic Studies at the University of Aberdeen before moving on to graduate with a Bachelor of Music (first class honours) from the Ian Tomlin Academy of Music at Edinburgh Napier University.

She also won the Harold Gray Prize for singing while at university.

Kathleen then travelled south to London to work as a Talent Scout for a music management company.

As Kathleen has a real passion for singing she decided to return to the North East to the University of Aberdeen to study for an MMus specializing in vocal music.

During her MMus studies she has been awarded the James Lobban Conducting Scholarship from the Aberdeen Bach Choir, the Carnegie-Cameron Taught Postgraduate Bursary and a King’s College Chapel Scholarship.

Kathleen is now currently a singing teacher, but will commence a PhD this September in “Conducting and Vocal Technique” at the University of Aberdeen.

The Ythan Singers are very much looking forward to their new season with Kathleen.

Their first major concert when Kathleen will take the baton will be their annual Christmas Concert in December.
