A local man is preparing to take on an epic cycle challenge to raise funds for the New Arc Wildlife and Animal Rescue Centre in Auchnagatt.
Scott Walmsley will set off from Land’s End on Wednesday, July 13 and cycle to John O’Groats.
He is aiming to complete the bike run in just nine days and is hoping to cover 100 miles on average per day.
Scott said: “I have always been up for an adventure and a challenge and I have always wanted to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats. If I can help a charity out in the process then it’s a bonus.
“I have never done anything like this before, I have ran a couple of marathons and jumped out of a plane for charity and that’s it!”
The 27-year-old has been training for the challenge for a number of months now.
“I just want to get started, I am wishing it to be a cycling holiday, but that’s wishful thinking,” he said.
“It’s going to be hard work, especially knowing it’s more than a week of non-stop cycling.
“I just hope I don’t get too many punctures and get a good night’s sleep between each day’s riding.”
Scott will be taking on the challenge alone but he will be well equipped to deal with any issues as he explained: “I have good safety equipment to keep me safe.”
Scott has set a fundraising target of £2,500 and donations can be given online at crowdfunding.justgiving.com/masterwalmsley.
