Specsavers has invested in the town, opening a new store and creating six jobs.
The team is headed up by director duo Jill McArthur and Michael Higgins, who also co-own the Specsavers stores in Westhill and Inverurie.
Nick Reid, optical assistant at the Westhill store, has joined the Ellon team and has been promoted to store manager.
The store features the latest high-tech equipment including 3D scanning technology, which allows optometrists to view the eye in more detail than ever before.
The Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine is a cutting-edge piece of equipment, usually found in hospital eye departments.
It is used for a variety of functions including screening and management of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
The technology produces a structural scan of the eye, including layers of the eye that would not normally be visible using traditional eye testing techniques.
OCT scans are available free of charge at the store to customers the optometrists feel may benefit from the additional examination.
The store also offers a weekly audiology service with a Specsavers’ audiologist visiting the store to conduct hearing tests.
Commenting on the opening, store director, Jill McArthur, says: “We are delighted to open our fantastic new store and look forward to looking after the eyes and ears of Ellon’s locals.
“We have a superb team who are on hand to welcome customers, so don’t hesitate to drop in to discuss eye care or make an appointment.”
The store is located at 15 Bridge Street, and is open Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5.30pm.
