The community of Udny will be marking Volunteers’ Week this weekend by thanking all those who make a difference to people’s lives.

To celebrate, Udny Community Trust Co (UCTC), is hosting an event in Pitmedden Public Hall on Saturday from 2-4pm.

Everyone is welcome to come along and find out more about the groups of hard-working volunteers and perhaps find something to get involved with themselves.

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of those who run and organise community groups, clubs and facilities to those who help out with events or look after their village or street - often unsung heroes of community life who give their own time to make things better for everyone.

UCTC development officer Eleanor Morris said: “Volunteering doesn’t have to be a huge commitment.

“There are lots of ways people can help out, from taking part in an annual event such as a village tidy-up or the hugely successful, and enjoyable, Pitmedden Music Festival.

“And for those with the time and enthusiasm for it, community groups rely on volunteers running their services year round.”

The event will include stands and stalls showcasing nearly 20 groups – with volunteers on hand to chat about how and why they volunteer.

There will be an awards presentation featuring nominees for Aberdeenshire Volunteering Awards, supported by Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action, and a special award from UCTC to recognise an outstanding contribution to the community.

Volunteers’ Week runs until tomorrow (Sunday).
