Mintlaw could soon boast impressive new welcoming ‘gateways’ in the village.

Mintlaw and District Community Council is seeking funding towards the creation of gateways at all four entrances to the village.

The gateways would comprise large boulders with suitable adornments and planting on Station Road, South Street, North Street and Longside Road.

After discussions, the community council has the backling of Aberdeenshire Council’s Roads Service.

The total cost of the project is £800 and the community council is seeking £640 towards this cost from the Buchan Area Committee’s Community Council Projects fund.

The balance will be met from its Brighter Villages grant.

Meanwhile, Boddam Community Council is requesting £124 towards the purchase of additional planters it’s purchasing from Willowbank Day Centre.

It participates annually in the Brighter Villages Scheme and is applying for funding to extend its existing floral displays by increasing the flower planters on Harbour Street.

The intention is to enhance the view towards the sea and brighten up the area.
