The Scottish National Party has re-selected Cllr Fergus Hood to contest East Garioch ward in May’s local elections.

Cllr Hood, who is the SNP’s Deputy Group Leader on Aberdeenshire Council was first elected in East Garioch in 2007, which includes the communities of Newmachar, Kintore, Blackburn and Hatton of Fintray. Before being elected, Fergus was Chairman of the Community Council in Newmachar and ran his own business in the village for nineteen years. Prior to this, Fergus worked for thirteen years for BP Exploration in Dyce.

Speaking after his selection, Cllr Hood said he was delighted to have received his party’s endorsement.

“Since being elected as a Councillor for East Garioch, I’ve worked hard to represent all the residents in the ward, and have always gone the extra mile to help residents find solutions to their problems”, he said. “I will be campaigning to provide the best possible public services to the residents of the ward. The new Local Development Plan will determine where new housing developments will be built, and I am determined that the appropriate infrastructure should be delivered along with the houses.

“Particular issues to be resolved include provision of a new community sports hall in Newmachar, as well as new schools for Newmachar, Kintore and Kinellar. I will also continue to campaign for a new rail station at Kintore.”
