MP for Gordon, Alex Salmond has announced that he is launching a campaign to ensure that constituents are able to gain access to high-quality superfast broadband services.
At the end of June 2016, broadband coverage extended to 20,349 premises across the district with 80.4% of premises having access to superfast coverage - albeit superfast speeds can vary in rural areas such as much of Gordon constituency.
Mr Salmond has recently held meetings with representatives from BT and Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband (DSSB), questioning the timelines on the roll-out of services across Gordon and will also shortly meet with the Mobile Telephone Provider, EE, who are looking to extend their coverage across the Gordon District.
Mr Salmond said: "Broadband coverage is crucial for rural communities and businesses across Gordon where it’s vitally important to keep people connected and thereby build a strong economy.
"The Scottish Government's ambition for Scotland is to have superfast broadband to 95% of premises by the end of 2017 and to 100% by 2021. It is now a fundamental service that all households and businesses require in a digital age, whether for shopping, viewing films or running businesses from home.
"Improving mobile coverage is also a priority, which is essential for making our wonderful villages a location of choice for families to live and work.
"I will continue to press both BT and DSSB hard in my regular meetings and contact with them, to ensure that quality superfast broadband services are provided as quickly as possible to the people and communities of Gordon. Our connectivity for Gordon campaign is crucial for the prosperity of this area."
