Rain fails to dampen the spirits at Collieston Gala

Rain showers didn’t spoil the fun at the recent Collieston Gala.

Crowds still turned out in force and organisers expect around £4000 to be raised from the week-long programme of activities.

Community council chairman Roger Berl said: “Collieston Gala once again attracted good attendances, inspite of rain showers trying to spoil the day.

“In addition to the usual stalls and refreshment tent, we had for the first time this year a rowing race. Our group, the Collieston Offshore Rowing Club competed with some success with three other boats from Portsoy, Catterline and Newburgh in Fife. It is expected that this will become an annual event in years to come.

“The evening ceilidh was, despite the rain which was at times torrential, well attended and enjoyed by all.”

All proceeds from the gala will go towards the annual costs of village maintenance and events.

These include the fireworks display, the senior citizens Christmas party and replacing and buying new equipment for the community centre and village.
