A North East Wildlife and Animal Rescue Centre has announced that an osprey that was in its care has sadly been put to sleep.

The osprey, named Ollie by the New Arc near Auchnagatt, arrived at the centre two weeks ago entangled in fishing line with a fish hook lodged in his throat.

An operation to remove the hook was carried out and the osprey had showed signs of improvement afterwards.

However in a Facebook post the New Arc team said they called a vet over the weekend after Ollie seemed to have "given up the fight".

The team made the hard decision to put 17-year-old Ollie to sleep yesterday.
