The chairman of Ellon Men’s Shed gave a comprehensive talk about the concept to members of Ellon Rotary Club last week.
Ellon Men’s Shed is a registered Scottish charity which can provide an opportunity for men of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy the therapeutic effect of meeting others and making friends while sharing a common interest.
The purpose is to provide recreational facilities in order to advance the social needs, health and well-being of men of all ages living in and around the town.
Being a member of Men’s Shed can generate a feeling of worth and usefulness to become an active member of the local community. Attending such a communal meeting can improve the health and well-being of an individual who may have lost their
focus on retirement after a life-time of work.
The Ellon Men’s Shed has been set up by six local trustees under the chairmanship of Charlie Forrest.
He told Rotarians: “Practical activities cannot take place at present since the group have yet to obtain the use of local premises that would allow members to meet socially and share their expertise in a social area with workshop space
“When we obtain a workshop we aim to share tools and carry out wood-turning and repair broken tools and machinery and share interests in photography and computing and have fun while sharing and learning new skills.”
Ellon Men’s Shed is currently taking contact details of those who would be interested in using the Shed once it is operational.
