It was amazing experience and totally surrealRachel Bolton Singer
Rachel, an S5 pupil at Ellon Academy, is on the CD’s credits - along with acclaimed mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill.
The student became involved with NYCoS in 2012 when her viola instructor Jean Fletcher persuaded her to audition for a week-long course.
Later, with the help of Ellon Academy music teacher Helen O Brien, Rachel applied online and prepared an audition song which secured her place.
She said: “Initially, I was really excited by the prospect of being able to record a CD with Karen Cargill, one of the world’s leading mezzo-sopranos and someone I admire.
“However, when we actually got into the recording studio, it was far less glamorous than I envisaged - 150 girls, 20 microphones and about nine hours of standing repeating the same five notes.
“Nevertheless, it was amazing experience and totally surreal to have my name printed on the inside cover of an actual published CD.”
Karen Cargill described the choir members as “fantastic ambassadors for singing in Scotland”.
NYCoS celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2016.
The CD, priced £10, is the first recording of Michael Head’s Snowbirds song-cycle.
