This year’s Ellon Swimarathon was held on Saturday, March 3 and saw 13 teams take part in the fundraiser.

The teams managed to raise a total of £2,709 and the money will be split between charities of the teams’ choice and End Polio Now.

A special cheque presentation event was held at Ellon Community Centre on Saturday, April 21.

Cheques were presented to the Ythan Swimming Club, 2nd Ellon Guides, Ellon Amateur Athletics Club, Moveability and the Ellon Inner Wheel Club.

Tipperty School also participated in the Swimarathon but did not attend the presentation.

The money they raised will be donated to Sports Relief.

The Swimarathon event was organised by Ellon Rotary Club.

Rotarian Ian Morris presented the cheques to the groups at the presentation.

He thanked the event sponsors, Netherton Plant Landscaping, Caledonia Homes, John Willox Kitchen Design Ltd, Quality Asbestos Services Ltd and Scotia Homes Ltd for their help and support.

Ian added: “The teams were required to swim as many lengths of the pool as they could in 25 minutes, but the main thing is just for people to take part and have fun.

“This year our teams managed to complete around 713 lengths.”

The next Swimarathon date is still to be announced, but visit www.swimarathon.org.uk for the latest updates.
